How hard is the PoE Lighting installation process? At Luminetworx™ our goal when designing the system was ease of use. We think we have done just that, Luminetworx™ PoE Lighting is the easiest system to install. We like to tell everyone that we have a 5 step install start to finish. So let’s review the process and see if it’s true.
Step One
Install the equipment rack in your designated utility closet or garage, server room, the choice is yours. There are two types of racks that we recommend. The first a two post 42U rack and the second a four post 42U rack. Either will do the job which choice is very dependent on how much room you have and how much hardware will be installed on it.
Step Two
Mount the Lumietworx™ PoE switches on the rack and plug them in to power. Power can be a UPS as we recommend or a 110V outlet. Keep in mind that the Luminetworx™ PoE switches are auto sensing and can be plugged into 110V (USA) or 204-240V (International).
Step Three
Run Cat6A cable from the rack to the fixture location and terminate with an RJ45 at each end using pinout B (see image). At luminetworx™ we feel that the least number of connections between fixture and power supply the more efficient and less prone to failure it will be. So we have decided to eliminate the patch panel. Now many of you will say that we are overthinking this or that this is nonsense, well we have been installing voice and data cabling for over 15 years and we have seen a few things over the years. So during the process of creating the Luminetworx™ PoE Lighting system we tried many options for both the technology and the installation process. So to that end the most efficient way to install PoE Lighting is a direct connection from the switch to the driver.
Step Four
Now there has been some debate about the order of the next two steps in the installation process. Some of your techs have argued that you should pair the fixtures first then mount them and the others say what is the difference. To that we say however you choose to tackle these last two steps is entirely up to you. Keep in mind whatever you decide neither is incorrect or will it negatively impact the installation process. So for me I prefer to pair the fixture first. To that end step four in the process, pair the fixture to the Luminetworx™ Lighting Control System ( there will be a separate detailed write up on the pairing process).
Step Five
The last step in the PoE Lighting installation process is, yes you guessed it, install the fixture. Now the fixture installation process will vary depending on which fixture is being installed (fixture installation instructions provided with the fixture). But that is it, the final step in the five step installation of the Luminetworx™ PoE Lighting System.
